Evendons Primary School is set in beautiful grounds in Wokingham, Surrey which are of historical importance, as they date back to 1785. The school building was initially a private home to people of significance, including Robert Garrard of the Crown Jewellers. More recently, it served as an independent preparatory school and is now Wokingham’s first ever community led primary free school. Since it opened two years ago, Evendons Primary swiftly became one of the most popular schools in the Borough and had as a result quickly outgrown its initial building.
The requirement to increase the size of the school also had to take into consideration the need to preserve the gardens, which form part of its heritage. The resultant expansion has seen the premises arranged over two separate blocks. The existing building is of a traditional construction, with a pitched roof. The works involved part demolition of this, and the design and build of a new two-storey extension. The new building adjoins the existing building via a glazed link extension and includes eight classrooms, one DT classroom, a staff room, offices and ancillary rooms.
rpa:group were employed as Architects to prepare all of the construction drawings for this scheme. Work commenced on the project in November 2016 and was completed in January 2018 in order to welcome the staff & pupils into their larger and more accommodating school.
