The three ground-floor rooms have been repurposed, to incorporate a fully open plan layout, with a small courtyard to the rear. The front door opens onto a spacious living area, which flows to a dining area and a new contemporary kitchen. The kitchen and dining area adjoins a small, tiled courtyard, with glazed sides and access, that flood the interior with light. Recessed skylights further infuse the home with natural daylight.
The palette is neutral to create a greater sense of space throughout the clearly defined zones, within the entire living area. The flooring on the ground floor is wood, which has been laid in a herringbone pattern that adds warmth and texture. The first-floor bedroom and shower room have also been reconfigured and modernised, to incorporate a separate dressing room with built in storge.
rpa:group’s Architects were appointed to provide the construction drawings and detailed design package for the project, and to coordinate with building inspectors for the duration. The refurbishment was not without its challenges, due to very restricted vehicular access and the introduction of a new MVHR air recycling system. In spite of this, work commenced in March 2022 and was successfully completed for the new owners to move in nine months later.
