New South Croydon apartment block helps answer need for more housing

The recently completed Block F comprises eleven apartments and forms part of the Waddon masterplan, a large-scale development on what was previously brown field off South Croydon’s Purley Way.

Kind & Company appointed rpa:group as architect for this design and build scheme for their client, Notting Hill Housing, who aim to help overcome the housing shortage by providing additional residential stock within the borough.

The accommodation units offer both one and two-bedroom apartments, each with an open plan living and dining area. The three-storey building is of a traditional masonry cavity wall construction, with concrete slab flooring. The exterior finishes have traditional brick cladding, with grey balconies to provide external space to the outlook.

The new development will also include a primary school, leisure centre and two further accommodation blocks and a terrace of new houses. The entire site will be operated from a central heating plant.

The architectural roll of rpa:group includes design amendments, full construction drawings and statutory approvals and ensuring the scheme meets all necessary building regulations, safety codes and fire regulations. The build is also CSH4/BREEAM equivalent.

rpa:group is in addition providing architectural services for what is currently known as Site C, a seven-storey building consisting of 58 flats. The estimated completion for this is December 2020.
