Interior scheme complete on iconic church, benefitting Knightsbridge Prep School

rpa:group’s Architectural division has completed a scheme at St Columba Scottish Presbyterian Church in London’s upmarket Knightsbridge.

The project required the subdivision of an existing stage on the lower level of the church, to incorporate two new multi-purpose music rooms. These will utilised be exclusively by the nearby Knightsbridge School, for music and drama classes.

The striking and contemporary St Columba was designed by architect Sir Edward Maufe, who also designed Guildford Cathedral and was constructed in 1955. The nature of the building lent its own design challenges to the scheme, which included ensuring suitable acoustic requirements were met and delivering adequate sound-proofing for the new rooms.
