The group has taken over two sky lounges located on levels 10 and 20 respectively within the terminal building. Both lounges are airside and overlook the runway, with an area of nearly 900m² each. These have been completely remodelled, with kitchen overhauls and feature new bars, seating and VIP areas that have been designed to align with the Plaza Premium brand and the expectations of its customers.
With extensive airport experience, rpa:group was appointed by Plaza Premium Group to provide their entire service offer on the scheme, which included design, project and cost management and interior architecture.
Plaza Premium have taken pride in instilling a sense of place in all of their lounges on a global scale. These design principals have been implemented in the new lounges with carefully considered and subtle nuances to the surrounding city of London.
rpa:group’s design studio worked with their operational design team to inject subtle references that are intelligent, instantly recognisable and playful. Elements include use of the iconic skyline and architecture in a simple and stylised way that is interspersed with layered and abstract natural forms and materials.
The project was not without its challenges, as all London Heathrow guidelines needed to be adhered to, and there were constraints around security and the importance of ensuring that any disruption was kept to a minimum and passengers were not impacted in any way.
