The grand 19th century hotel was acquired by Jastar Capital, a family-owned hotels, real estate and private equity business, who saw the potential to further build on and enhance this well-loved, historic and elegant hotel. An ambitious scheme was proposed for the full refurbishment of its bedrooms, bathrooms, common areas and the formation of a new restaurant and a market- leading spa. Works also include additional bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.
With over thirty-five years of experience in construction and hospitality, rpa:group was requested by Jastar Capital to provide services for Project Management, Quantity Surveying and Contract Administration. Acting as lead consultant, the brief was for a ‘turnkey’ solution to the development and scope that covered architectural stages 0-6, and management of all pre-construction and construction stages of the project. Our involvement also includes the coordination of pre-appointed Architectural, M&E, Structural and other relevant sub-consultants.
The hotel has been remaining fully operational during the refurbishment works, which have a overall value of £20M are being undertaken as a phased redevelopment, the first of which was the Stables Building will included restoration and numerous alterations, while respecting the original character of the building. The architecture of the courtyard adopted principles from the 1930’s extensions to the west of the courtyard in terms of footprint, key principal heights, materiality and window detailing.
