rpa:group were responsible for the architectural consultancy for this mixed use scheme, located adjacent to the Odeon cinema in Sidwell Street Exeter and close to the city centre.
Picture House Apartments is a purpose built student accommodation comprising 102 beds arranged in both individual and two bedroom apartments. The project comprised a four storey steel frame construction with metsec infill panels. The building was tiered to the rear to accommodate rights of light issues. The building was further complicated with a part basement were the lounge, cinema and laundry facilities are located. A terraced garden has been created for the enjoyment of the students wrapping around the rear of the building. A retail unit created on the ground floor has been leased to a supermarket chain. The entrance to the student accommodation has a listed facade retained and incorporated into the new build.
The four million pound project completed on time for the 2014 academic year.
