Redevelopment of Glasgow’s historic Custom House to include new Adagio aparthotel and four-star Clayton Hotel

The iconic A-Listed Custom House on the banks of the River Clyde within Glasgow’s historic waterfront area is being refurbished and will offer public spaces including a lobby, bar and various meeting and conference facilities and will serve as the main entrance to a new four-star Clayton hotel. The Adagio Aparthotel will link to The Custom House via a covered courtyard and glazed roof. Striking and modern, the Adagio Aparthotel will feature street-level bars and restaurants at the rear of the site and a terrace on the seventh-floor level that overlooks the river.

The focus of the mixed-use development scheme is to deliver high-quality contemporary architecture, which has been sensitivity designed to complement the surrounding architectural vernacular, while also safeguarding and enhancing the historic Custom House Building.

With developer Artisan Real Estate Limited behind a significant investment of £90m for the scheme, this new leisure and hospitality quarter is set to breathe new life into the neglected riverside area, aided by its convenient and central location to major railway stations, Glasgow’s City centre and Buchanan Street. The scheme is expected to be completed in Spring 2022.
