Quality affordable housing for London’s Southwark

A site that was previously used for parking in North Bermondsey, Southwark, is being developed into a residential apartment block to provide much-needed council homes for local people.

The new build, which will be called Slippers Place, is going to incorporate eighteen new 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments, one of which will have full wheelchair access.  The building is being constructed on a 0.06 hectares site, which benefits from a prominent corner position facing Southwark Park and has good access to local amenities and outdoor space.

The new homes will all be 100% new council homes and will be compliant with Lifetime Homes standards and form part of Southwark Council’s commitment to building thousands of new council homes across the borough. Southwark Council already met its target to start construction or build 2,500 new council homes by May 2022, and has plans to build 1,000 more by 2026.

Slippers Place has been designed with careful consideration and high quality in mind and will contribute to the local landscape. Details include recessed balconies with lighter brickwork to the reveals, balustrade details and powder coated metal railings. Pink toned brickwork will continue across the face of the balconies and will complement the champagne-coloured window and door frames.

Glenman Corporation has awarded rpa:group with RIBA stage 4-6 for the scheme, which sees construction commence in summer 2022 with completion in the Autumn of 2023.
