Founded in 1999 in Canada, Mackage is one of the most prestigious and contemporary outerwear brands worldwide today. With international success and various UK concessions already in place, Mackage decided to give advocates of the brand the opportunity to experience and purchase their fine range of apparel in their first UK stand-alone store.
The solution was a pop-up store on London’s exclusive Sloane Street. Over a six month period, the space provides the perfect platform to launch a stand-alone store, testing response to location and demographic, while being flexible enough to create an engaging and adaptable retail environment. rpa:group provided a range of support, through the tender and procurement stages and offering full Quantity Surveying and Project Management services.
The design was undertaken by Mackage’s internal design team in Canada who rpa:group worked closely alongside, successfully overcoming any challenges that arose through delivering a design concept remotely.
The pop-up is a nod towards the brand’s global store concept with the merchandise taking centre stage. It is further enhanced by the strong contrast provided by a black floor and ceiling. Angular metal display racks and marble plinths are balanced by the softening effect of wood. Large lightboxes, featuring dramatic imagery of a flipped iceberg by Alex Cornell envelop the space. The entire effect is that of a gallery space, where the merchandise is the main event.
