Edge Apartments

brief

rpa:group were responsible for the architectural consultancy for this mixed use scheme, close to the main entrance to the Birmingham University campus.

insight

The project involved the demolition and clearance of a site situated on Bristol Road, Selly Oak. The scheme maximised the use of the site, which was further compounded by the existence of a storm drain that could not be built over or near to it. The scheme was mixed use, with a supermarket and a food offer to the ground floor and student apartments comprising 77 bedrooms, along with a gym, cinema, games room and work rooms to the upper floors and the rear ground floor, which included a garden.

result

This four and half million pound project was completed utilising a Fusion system build. The approach required every element to be fully detailed prior to start on site, as the components were produce in the factory in panels and then assembled on site. The greater lead in the approach allowed a very tight contrasted site to be completed on time and on brand, to meet the academic year.
